Removing A Morris Minor Engine

The engine can be removed from the car leaving the gearbox in place.

Remove the clevis pin securing the bonnet in place. Drain the oil from the engine. Drain the water from the cooling system. Disconnect the battery. Release the flexible petrol pipe from the union on the petrol pump. Remove the carburetor and air filter.

Disconnect and remove the bottom and top radiator hoses and the heater pipe connection at the radiator. Remove the four sets of bolts which hold the radiator in place then remove the radiator. Disconnect the heater pipe from the control valve. Loosen the two exhaust flange bolts and disconnect the exhaust pipe.

Disconnect the Dynamo and starter leads and the low tension lead from the distributor. Remove the high tension lead from the coil. Disconnect the oil gauge pipe from the cylinder block.

Drain the oil from the engine and gearbox. Drain the water from the cooling system.

Support the engine with suitable lifting tackle. Remove the four nuts, bolts and washers securing the front left hand engine mounting plate. Remove the two nuts and washers which secure each of the front two engine mounting brackets to the mounting rubbers. Disconnect the clutch lever return spring from the rear engine mounting plate. Prop and support the front end of the gearbox. Remove the nuts and bolts which secure the engine to the gearbox bearing in mind two of these support the starter motor.

Move the engine   clear the clutch then lift it upwards turning it at a right angle so as to clear the radiator grill.

Replacement is the reverse of the above. Do not forget to refill the fluids.
